Jesus of Nazareth is the central figure of Christianity and is believed by Christians to be the son of God. Most scholars agree that Jesus was a Galilean, non-Pharisaical Jewish teacher, who preached His messages orally. He was baptized by John the Baptist and crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman Prefect, Pontius Pilate.

Christians believe that Jesus has a “unique significance” in the world. Christian doctrine include the beliefs that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin mother, and performed many miracles. “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time” (1 Timothy 2:5-6).
