Many artisans in Israel depict scenes or individuals from the Torah or the Bible by carving olive wood. This statue depicts the Samaritan Woman at the Well, the one who converses with Jesus Christ and is forever changed by His words. She was astonished that He would even speak with her, since He was a Jew and a man, speaking to a Samaritan and a woman. She was also amazed to discover that He knew all about her though they had never met. She became one of His ardent disciples and spread the news of His preaching and teaching throughout her village. Her story has come down through the ages as a part of the Gospels to spread Jesus' message to believers to this day.
