The word “Buddha” is a Sanskrit word which means “The Awakened One.” The Buddha lived approximately 3,000 years ago. He was an Indian prince named Siddhartha who gave up his throne to search for truth and to relieve the suffering of humanity. After many years, he received the enlightenment that all beings are complete and perfect but are unaware of this reality due to their delusions and cravings. He then began an endless journey of compassion to teach others how to attain freedom, wisdom, true peace and joy.

Buddhists believe that everyone can become a Buddha, can be awakened to the truth or enlightened, freed from delusions and suffering and perfect in wisdom and compassion.
