Further comments regarding Hinduism
Hinduism, the third largest religion in the world, after Christianity and Islam, has no attributed founder, synthesizing between 500 BCE and 300CE, making it the probable oldest religion in the world. While there are adherents all over the world, it is practiced, primarily, in Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. Proponents refer to it as the “eternal way”. Primary values/beliefs include Dharma (ethics/duties), Artha (prosperity/work), Kama (desires/passions), and Moksha (liberation/freedom from the cycle of death, and rebirth/salvation). They also include karma (action, intent/consequences), Saṃsāra (cycle of death and rebirth), and various yogas (paths or practices to attain Moksha). Hinduism prescribes the eternal duties, such as honesty, refraining from injuring living beings (ahimsa), patience, forbearance, self-restraint, and compassion, among others. The four largest denominations of Hinduism are the Vaishnavism, Shaivism, Shaktism and Smartism.
