From 1957 to 1968 Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. traveled more than six million miles, and gave an estimated 2,500 speeches. King used the words of God and preached equality, hope, and forgiveness, “Love our neighbors as ourselves.” He inspired the oppressed to unite for change.

The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom ended on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963, where 250,000 people gathered. King gave his famous “I Have a Dream“ speech where he demanded that America make good on it’s promise of freedom and security of justice. He spoke of the future: “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Today his language of love, nonviolent direct action and redemptive suffering, resonates globally in the millions who stand up for freedom and elevate democracy to its ideals.
