Portrait of a Soul
Portrait of a Soul teamed up with the world-class craniofacial specialists at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center to help identify children who would receive the most emotional benefit from having a commissioned portrait.
"Children suffering with craniofacial conditions are no strangers to physical pain, as they often endure several highly invasive surgeries throughout their young lives.
But sadly it’s the thoughtless actions of others—long stares, loud whispers and insulting remarks—that undermine the self worth of these children and cause almost unbearable emotional pain".
Portrait of a Soul helps heal these emotional wounds by commissioning world-class portrait artists....to create stunning works of art that reflect the great worth, beauty and inner vision of these brave children.

The Vision
Cincinnati philanthropists Lee and Susan Schaefer modeled Portrait of a Soul after the highly praised “Face to Face Portrait Project” started in Philadelphia by Nelson Shanks, founder and artistic director of Studio Incamminati School for Contemporary and Realist Art and Linton Walker, MD, founder of the Craniofacial Program at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Both men believed in the power of art and medicine to nourish the soul and health the body. The Mission
Portrait of a Soul helps heal emotional wounds by commissioning world-class portrait artists—typically reserved for only the wealthy and famous—to create stunning works of art that reflect the great worth, beauty and inner vision of these brave children. Partners in healing. . |
